The pH value of recent ADA II soil is around 5.5-6.0. It's absolutely normal and don't worry. IMHO, 6.5 would be more ideal as it is suitable for most of the plants and fishes. Some fishes may not be able to survive with 5.5. You may search the forum for more info of selecting appropriate fishes. Basically, I do not recommend changing the pH value artificially, in particular, for newbies. It's hard to control the pH level stably and that may hurt both your plants and fishes.
