Hi, all "see hings",

My tank is :
1) 14"(L)x9"(W)x14"(H) [about 30L]
2) water level to soil level = 12"
3) 2" Ada black soil (without "foundation nutrient")
4) T8 10W x 1 tube only (that goes with the "set tank")
5) DIY CO2
6) various unknown "water grass"
7) 30s small fishes.
8) tank "opened" about 1 week only!

None of the water grass produce bubbles! I guess my lighting is too weak.

My qn is re lighting -
1) wanna set additional light tube(s). Seems that my tank can only fit the size of T5 8W tubes (13.5" long). Have checked in "Japan City" that there is a plastic set costing HK$65 (for 1 tube of 8W), is this price OK?
2) Also checked to old topics, noted there is also "T5HO" tube, is the dimension of "T5HO" same as "T5"? Can I fit a "T5HO" tube into a "T5" light frame? How much is a tube of "T5HO" then?
3) What light power should I use for my tank? How many T5 8W (or T5HO ??W) tubes should I add?
4) Also noted fm old topics that there is also "PL" tubes, is "PL" better than T5 or T5HO? Can my tank use "PL" tubes?

Pls help my lots of qns and thanks in advance, bros.! :-n05

1. I am not sure if the price is acceptable to you, to me, the price seems ok! However, you will need more than just 1 tube of 8W

2. T5HO is NOT the same as T5, they can't be switch in between! The shortest T5HO is for 16" from Dazs and only have 13000K!

3. I have a 14" tank using 27W PL, the red plants are not red at all. So I suggest about +/- 32W.

4. I suggest you use add another PL, since they are shorter than T5, which fits your tank better.

Hi bros,

Finally DIY change the "set-tank" lighting from "10w x1" tube to "T5 8w x 4 tubes" (total 32w).

But still none of the grasses generate bubbles (DIY CO2 about 1 bubble/2 sec)! Why is it so?
Pls help!

You only setup your planted aquarium for about 1 week, it is possible that the plant are still not picking up the new environment.

The important thing is to know if you have put in the right plant, and if the plant are growing right now. So what exactly have you planted in your aquarium? Do you know the name of the plant? Any photo? So far, did the plant start to grow new leaves after you plant them into your aquarium?

I don't remember the exact names of my plants! I just randomly picked them based on their outlook. As far as I can recall & decribe, they are seemingly -
1) 莫絲 balls;
2) green "Gold fish" grass;
3) red "Gold fish" grass;
4) "long leave" grass ;
5) "needle leave" grass;

My DC is out of order and will better try to post some photos after fixing the DC!

Thks for the replies anyway.

Hi bros,

My plants seem have "chasing light" symptom, i.e. the stems become very long and almost reach the water surface but the "leave crowns" are very small => like "baboo" :m !!

(1) Any ways to restore their original normal shapes?

(2) Is it due to insufficient light power ?

(3) My four "T5 8w" lights are cheap PRC products bought fm "Ap Liu St". Should I replace the tubes with Philip models? How much for each Philip tube?

(4) Is it due to my improper lighting hours - since I kept the lights on for the past 10 days (until yesterday when I bought a new air pump to replace the broken one!). I turned off the lights for the first time last nite and turned them on this morning. But when I returned home tonite, the plants have developed the symptoms :j

(5) should I continue to turn off the lights at nite time?

Pls advise!

Sorry, really can't help much by looking at the name of your plant, maybe you can take some photo and post it here and we can tell you more about the plant you picked. But honestly with a small tank like that, I believe you better go for a shaded tank, you are going to have a hard time to setup a good environment so bright plant can grow very well, and even if you can do that, you'll have a busy time to trim them very regularly.
