this theory is only suitable to tank that don't have much light and CO2 support.
of cause plant need less when light and CO2 is limited,
but for tanks that with high light, high CO2,
nutrient from fish food and water is surely not enough.
the theory from "Ecology of Plant Aquarium" is for the so-called "low tech" tank,
which use minimun input to run the tank (but the output ,i.e.plant growth, will be minimize as well),
but when one of the input (for example, light) is increased,
you have to rise the others as well, to meet a balance situation.
so, beware that one theory does't suit to all
the main point is BALANCE.
