I agree with this. Many think HQI is hotter, but imagine if you put together 150W of FL or PL, you get a very hot and large surface, I am sure the total heat release is at least similar to HQI. Besides, HQI have 95% of its rated efficiency in its entire life cycle, while FL or PL's output is declining continuously since the moment you turn it on the first time.

Besides, only HQI have sun like effect (directional shadow), and nice surface refraction.

Yes too, Comparing FL and PL. I also prefer FL. FL is a more mature product, there are more choices of the light spectrums than PL. A lot of the FL products like Hagen, Sylvania, ADA, NEC, KOWASYSTEM have very good product specialize for Aquarium plants (Spectrum of light is best fit for both photosynthesis and comfort to eye). Where PL is relatively new, the light spectrum available is not as good as FL and the only benefits is it size is small and the light intensity is high.

But when buying Japanese FL (e.g. ADA, NEC, KOWASYSTEM) be VERY VERY careful about their length. Their length is different
from other countries' product or may not fit in the China, Hong Kong or Taiwan made FL holder. Measure before you buy !

ADA have 15W (about 1.5feet), 20W (about 2 feet), 32W (about 3 feet). They can be fit in Japanese tank's lamp holder, Nissio and ADA, Kotobut.. Not sure if there is 30W and 40W selling in Hong Kong.
