Hi everyone, i call Night Nids. a new hand for aqua.

i read some website about the lighting for grass
i want to find how bright of the light i need to use to make the grass grow??

i'm plan to use a 24" tank.

I'm also a new a new hand for aqua. I recommanded to use ADA lighting . It's very good for plant but the price is expensive. It's around HKD 110.00 for 20W . By the way, tt's no standard capacity for 24" tank. My tank is also 24" length, the capacity is only 40L.

不同草都有唔同要求, 看你想種什麼草啦.
陽性草就多多都唔係好夠, 如太陽, 百葉, 矮珍珠
陰性草就可以用兩枝 36W PL. 如莫絲, 水榕, 鐵皇室
而且看你的缸深度, 超過 50cm, 用 鹵素燈是不錯的選擇.
如果你是回 NZ, 不經常回來, 就要想下後備的問題, 因為一枝 FL 有效壽命只有 5-6個月, PL 就會長些, 到時就要換了. 鹵素燈就可以用年多,成本就會貴了些, 不過24"缸, 用一枝就夠了.

today been to fish street, that man in the shop introduce me to use FL x2's light or PL... he said only is a 24" tank. not really need to buy HQI wo. so i buy FL one

u guys think ok??

if only have ONE FL, I think it is not enough.

This one (GLO-Life) is good for sure, but other people would use cheaper alternatives.

There is no definite answer to your question. Technically speaking, most of the plants grow better under HQI lighting than in FL / PL only, but we also need to consider the heat generation, the strong brightness and the lamp fixture of which might cause grievance to your family members. From the aquascaping point of view (artistic), they don't have much difference.

To me, I could not affort the drawbacks of HQI at home, therefore I use good quality FL (which in long run is more expensive than HQI).

In general 3W to 4W of light power per gallon is enough for most of the plants, (if the tank is 24" and the volume will be about 40 to 60L, convert to gallon is about 12 gallon, the lighting requirement would be 36 to 40W), I guess 2 x 20W FL will be enough for a 24" tank, but if you want to grow plants which requires high lighting or you want to keep a very high density of plants in your tank or the tank is too deep, it is not enough.
