Hi everybody,
last time (friday), i went to 發達魚with wwhk,
we told with the boss of 發達魚.
he said that wood cannot be boiled becasue its calcium ions
will lose through boiling process.
he suggested we put the wood in the water few days
that is the correct method.
all big brothers , may i have your opinion??

I doubt that there is any significant amount of calcium ion in bodwood or the woods we can buy in fishstreet. Actually Bodwood or wood will make the water slightly acidic, usually calcium ion pairing with carbonate or bicarbonate which will cause water become slightly alkali. Therefore, the chance of calcium ion inside wood is very low or even they have the quantity is insignificant.

Secondly, do we need calcium from those woods ? Calcium ion can be found in tap water. We just need a very small amount and the calcium from tap water will be enough for our tank. Actually Calcium ion will increase the GH/KH which is not desirable in planted aquarium.

If i used a pot to boil the wood. I think i will not use this pot to cook any more la....
