水草情迷

Although what I am about to suggest sounds a bit drastic or potentially harmful, it is actually quite safe and very effective. It also avoids the necessity to remove any leaves. The suggested procedure involves a 2 to 3 minute disinfection bath in diluted household bleach (1 part bleach to 19 parts water). You can use the name brand products or the generic. Just get the ordinary bleach and do not get the variety with the added lemon scent. Place the plant in the solution (including one that is totally covered with algae) and gently circulate the bleach solution to ensure good coverage. The fine leaf plants are the most sensitive and should only get 2 minutes, while the broad leaf varieties including Java fern, sword plants and Anubias can take the full 3 minutes. Next, give them an immediate rinse in clean water. I usually have a bucket with clean water ready and I simply transfer the plant to the new container and leave it there for a few seconds. The previously touch algae is now dead, visible pieces can be more easily removed by rubbing the leaves between your fingers and the plants are now ready to go into their new home.

I did that before for new plants (before put tank), it works sometimes and kill the plants sometimes. It is a bit difficult to master the correct dose of beach and timing of bath as bleach is a strong chemical

Then I use Hydrogen Peroxide 雙氧水 or the commerical available algae removal solution to bath new plant. Which is less destructive and tolerance more in dosage and time.

記得有隻漂白水係可以食用, 即是無害, 亦能清潔用途, 係日本百貨公司見過, 我諗對魚的傷害會冇咁大.

I remember I've read the same information in "thekrib" and "Jenny's Plant Page" website. Even the 1 to 19 ratio is the same. They mentioned some plants can stand for 2 to 3 minutes, but some must not exceed 1 minute. Depending what plants you are growing. For details and more complete picture, pls visit:

我試了這方法, 效果很好. 但我是先把草起出, 用膠盒仔裝起加水再放入冰格, 5分鐘後取出加入漂白水, 10分鐘後用清水洗 3-4 次. 藻類沒有了. 我相信再等 1-2 天便可以放回缸.

今天, 我放草回缸, 完全無問題.

補充一點, 漂白水的份量不可太多. 20(水): 1 (漂白水) 最好. 水草不會死也不會退色, 當然最好是有另一個小缸可以養幾天後放回大缸. 這方法也是迫出來的. 大家都心痛水草受到澡類感染. 又沒有徹底的解決方法而且夏天的高溫是不可避免的. 澡類一定有. 我公司有一個大缸 5.5呎長. 冬天水草很好又沒有澡. 但夏天一到, 澡類就來. 9月份後, 又要重新買水草, 每次都過千元. 所以這方法值得一試. 我試了很成功.

補充一點, After the bleach bath and wash the plant with fresh water, we can further bath the plant using water conditioner to remove the reminding chlorine before puting back to the tank.

Don't worry about the chlorine, it will simply gas out when you take the plant out of water.
