The living environment in HK may not be worser than that in the States. It depends.
At least HK is not the target for terrorists from Laden :c

G'day Jimmy~ :a
I've been living in Sydney (Australia) for more than 10 years and reckon that the fish & fish assessories available in here cost around 4 times more than HK...and often they don't really have as much brand choices as those available in HK either~ :-n07

However, I reckon the quality & professioness of sale services in fish shops here are much much much better than HK ones. Most of the sales here in Sydney are well-trained & they care alot about customer satisfactions...They are all trying to retend as much as customers as possible by providing good services and professional knowledges on fish keeping...On the other hand, I can see that the sales in fish street are really crappy and often have no good customer services at all.... :f Their attitudes toward customers are just a *BIG* no no... :-n03

I believe the shops there in the US are pretty professional & good in customer service, since I reckon western people do care more about overall satisfactions rather than just the quality of product itself. Do you agree on this? :-n08

Feifei,

With due respect, if you were given a second chance, would you like to review and revise your sentences?

Hi Jimmy,

I think the price differential include the following factors:

1. US is a big country, you have to spent a lot on product transportation and delivery.
2. Each shop covers small numbers of customer within its coverage area, the shop has to raise the price to compensate the low sales volume.
3. In US, you have to pay kinds of insurance under the legislation, eg. product indeminty, shop indemnity. That cost you a lot.
4..........

Anyway, we in Hong Kong have some other goods selling more expensive than in US or other countries.
:a

Hi Jimmy,

Seattle is a beautiful city so you are lucky of being a dweller in there. Like many other cities, Hong Kong is suffering a serious problem of air pollution, you know where is the dirty air coming from? The Pearl River Delta Area (PRD), even though you are living in US, a country with stringent policy against the China goods, you could find not many things are not made in China in your home today, isn’t it? They are from the “world’s factory”, PRD. Well, back to your question, Hong Kong is too close to PRD so everything from this “neighbour” is cheaper than elsewhere; too we have no GST (goods and services tax). That’s the deal, live better pay higher.

However, I am still a man who loves Hong Kong very much, 2 aspects, first is over 50% such as transportation facilities, culture, job opportunities and Fish Street I counted are scoring “better” than other countries, second is something I like or owned already which the other countries will never do better such as Cow Tummy Noodles, Roast Pig/Duck/Cha Siu, Dim Sum and a group of old friends.

Fei Fei,

yeah I know the reason for why is cost so much more in US than HK, and I agreen what Pinoki say about the customer service in US. I used to a big pet shop manager in our company we have over 50 store all over US. The reason I said " its not fair" mainy is I miss HK alot. I am planting go back to HK when I get older (when I make enough $ in US :b ). In a way I am lucky I am in US. In a way you guys are lucky live in HK or wherever you guys are living! May be some of us can meet when I go back to HK for fun next time! by the way, my english may not be very very good ad may be I type things wrong, but so what :g ! This is a place for fun :b , talk about fish and things around our lovely pet not teaching enlish. I would love to type chinese if I know how! Because I type enough english everyday!

have fun and enjoy :a

Wow!! Pet shop manager...ok, let me do some guessing here~ :-n06 Is this pet shop called "Walmart"? :d
I really want to work in a fish shop as part-time or even full-time after I graduate next year..however the sad thing is that I've noticed not much girls are working in aquariums here in Sydney..they employ more guys than girls! :( Girls are tended to work more in pet shops rather than in specialised aquarium retailers..maybe it's because girls can't really do heavy works than what guys can do! :c

I've been to a fish shop early this year..the owner of that shop was a really fat guy who doesn't show any respects to his customers since he's a racist! :k I went in the shop and asked him to pick me a pair of dwarf cichlids..and guess what??? He pretended that he couldn't understand my English and kept on repeating "huh??? what??? huh???"..he made me felt very insulted and the worse thing was he caught a pair of sick fish for me and they died after 3 days of the purchase! :-n03 I went back to the shop and ask for compensation, but once he saw me there, he said "What are you doing here?????" It sounded like I annoyed him and I'm not welcomed at all! Even my friends went into the shop, he did the same thing to them...WHAT A DICKHEAD!!!! :n
Anyway, what I want to say is that I see customer services are more important than the price / quality of the products..No matter how cheap the product is, if customers are being insulted / not respected..I won't go back to that shop again! Never ever! :k

I agreed on what Fans has just said about the GST, here in Australia most of the services & products also have been placed a 10% GST and that's why sometimes I reckon the prices are a rip off when compared to the same products in HK.. :f Everytime I went back to Hong Kong for holiday, I did lots & lots of shopping and I miss HK and my relatives there soooo much too! :l

(p.s. Fans, do you mean 牛腩麵? It's not called "Cow Tummy Noodle" ah~~~(sound really funny with this name.. :c "Beef brisket noodle soup" is the correct name of this food~ :e Also not roast *pig*..it's roasted *pork*~ :-n06 )

wow so they are very racist in Sydney :n ! If I was you would not even buy the fsh from him :k ! When I work in pet shop as the manager I was the main guy for fish department. I did hired 2 girl to work in there, I hired people base on their customer service, rather than they know about fish or not! because if they know nothing about fish I can teach them, but if they have bad customer, is hard to change them. From my point of view I always think customer come first is the most important. The pet shop I worked in call PETCO Not Wal Mart :-n03 :b :d , I think you may want to work in some of the bigger company rather small company.
best wishes for you :-n01

I haven't visit that shop again anymore, but that shop actually often got some rare cichlids & other tropical fish that you can hardy seen in other aquariums...I remembered that guy got 2 adlut pairs of albino salfin gibbceps and selling them for A$400 each! :m So that's why people are always willing to visit that shop since it constantly got some rare fish for sale~ :f

Oops~ wrong guess... :d I haven't heard of PETCO...but here in Sydney the biggest pet shop chain stores are called "Pet Paradise"..they do hire girls to work in there (school leavers the most)..but other aquarium retailers only hire young men as I can seen in most stores...

Anyway, thankQ Jimmy~ :-n08 I'll try my best to finish the last year of uni and will try to get a good full-time job that's related to my area of study (Food Science and Technology...it's a bloody hard course to study!! :l ), I can still get a part-time job to work in aquariums/pet shops whenever there're some available in the future~ :e It's nice to meet you here and best wishes for you too~~ cya around~~ :-n10
