I use the following method to change water on my 48" tank

p.s. remember don't remove the pipe's water after pump out the water from tank

I use the same method for my 39" tank too.........
this is a good method......the main tip is as ICM Hing say "don't remove the pipe's water after pump out the water from tank", otherwise, the water flow will be broken since air will enter the filter..........
For my case, I use a "T" before the inlet terminal of the filter, I use 2 additional valves to control water flow system........

Sure "In" and "Out" for change water use the same pipe!!

haha but i buy 2x"Y".... one is useless... waste money!!
but usefull to clean the filter sometime, because it have a stop water control!!
