水草情迷

我生活的地方，沒有什麼人懂短鯛和水草。雖然會比較悶，但也會有意想不到的事情發生。昨天我就經歷了這樣一件事情。我路過一家魚店。這是一家比較爛的魚店，只有最一般的燈魚和孔雀。平時我是不會進去看的， 但是昨天有空，就走了進去。就在我漫不經心的瀏覽魚缸時，忽然發現在一口缸裏有一些熟悉的身影，是一群短鯛！和一些燈魚養在一起。大概有7，8條吧，都是1‧5~2厘米長的幼魚。由於管理不善，缸底已經有幾具屍體了。我們這裏絕少見到短鯛，難得看到一次都是天價。所以我的激動心情可想而知。我問當班的伙計這是什麼魚，她回答我說是新品種的“燈魚”，2‧5美元一條。我簡直不敢相信自己的耳朵。我在本地見過幾次短鯛，沒有一次低於二十美元的！！趕緊全部買下。沒想到這家殺千刀的店竟然不收信用卡！！！我翻遍了所有口袋和車裏的角落，現金也只夠三條魚。只好挑了三條最健康的帶回家。今天一早又趕去，唉，死得只剩一條了。只好買下他。現在這四條鯛在我的小草缸裏，還挺好的，已經開始吃東西了。從他們的體形和特徵來看可能是阿卡西。由於比較小而且顏色灰暗，我還不太確定是什麼品種。等養一段時間再向大家報告。真替他們死去的同類難過。

就是本地很多魚店, 都分不清魚的種類呀, 買到好東西又便宜的, 一定很高興了.

亞卡西的小魚,在初期會不甚起眼, 但一發起色來, 一定令你喜出望外.

It happened to me once. There was a really 爛的 local 魚店. I don't usually visit them at all. But again, by chance I had nothing better to do.... I went there saw 3 Gold Stripe Neon cory. The other big "famous" 魚店 selling them for $16US. This store selling them for $6.99. I told the sales, "I am taking them all!!" I had a hard time stopping myself from laughing....

Hi, FELIX, Did you find any ADA substrate for sale around bay area? I can not find any here in NC. What do you use as substrate in ph<7 tanks? Thanks!!

Use Seachem Flourite lah....it is recommended by all over here. If you like red gravel, use Flourite Red. I personally like Flourite better than Flourite Red.

bigalsonline.com has the best price ($9.99)....but....shipping is $10 per bag. LFS mostly sell it at $15-28 per bag. Therefore make sure you shop around.

I have 4 extra bags of Flourite. Too bad you are just living too far away....haha.

I could understand how happy you are when you saw those "small fish" in the fish store. As same as SuperCTW said, even some fish store in HK also don't know what they sell...BTW, I so wonder that 8X $2.5 is only $20... You don't have 20 bucks cash in your pocket??? Ha Ha...

Well, Sunday is the shopping day for me so I spent most of the cash. I never carry more than 20 dollars with me. You know, it is in US here and it's not very safe. I can use credit cards anyways. ^_^

Hi, Felix, does Fluorite has the ability to buffer the water at low PH? I only know that fluorite is good for plants.

Flourite doesn't change your pH. Use Seachem Acid buffer and Alkaline buffer. Pretty easy 1:1 = 6.0 pH.

My formula is: 1/2 teaspoon of Acid buffer + 1/2 teaspoon of Alkaline buffer => 10 Gallon of tap water === water with 6.0 ph + 2 KH.

Mmm, good idea, but I prefer peat moss. My local tap water is very good: ph7.0, hardness 70ppm. So peatmoss will do the job. I use a little in my filter.

Hmm....I never use peat before. One thing trouble me is, I don't really know how much I should put in and when to replace it. Those two buffer are no brainer for me.... I just gradually add them in while I'm adding water....lazy mah.

上次救回來的那四條小鯛，有三條的狀態已經很穩定了，搶食也很兇，還有一條狀態不太好，老是躲躲藏藏的。那三條健康的，已經能很明顯的看出是阿卡西，兩公一母。公魚已經能隱約看見鏟形尾巴上的白紋，母魚鰓蓋上和身體前部已經出現金屬色的斑紋。真的很漂亮！！

Will this method stabilize the PH? And, what kind of water treatment product do you use with these SeaChem Buffers to eliminate chlorine, chloramine, and heavy metal?
