I am so happy to tell you guys that my 荷蘭鳳凰 had laid eggs last night. The eggs are too small and I don't know how many they are. They are now still in my only grass tank (with other fishes in it) and are guarded by both parents.

As I read the old messages, those eggs will be eaten by their parents or other fishes during the night time. So I kept one of my FL light on overnight. To my suprise, the eggs are still there in this morning. Although this is still the first day of my experiment, I believe that turning the light on may keep the parents alert on guarding the eggs.

For those who had experience on breeding 荷蘭鳳凰, do you keep the light on or off? Can you share your experience to me?

It is really difficult situation, dunn.

My case was similar to you, and egg-laying happened last week. Both parents protect their eggs in a secret place (deep inside lot of plants). I found them and their eggs after one day they disappeared, but unfortunately other fishes also found them and try to rob their eggs.

I removed the eggs eventually out of the plant tank but the male parent fish dead at one day after this (maybe due to sadness of losing eggs).

I have some baby fishes now but losed the male parent fish, so DON’T try to separate the parent fishes and their eggs. If possible, removing other fishes from the fish tank temporarily maybe the only way to have a happy ending. I think neither keeping lighting on nor off increases the chance of keeping the eggs in present of other fishes.

The third day after the spawning, still with the light on last night. Today, the parents are still guarding their eggs and I can see the eggs now, but I still don't know how many are there.

When I removed the eggs from the tank together with mud last Sat., I can only count about 20 eggs sticking to the mud.

After 6 days, totally 40 hatched baby fishes are still alive. So I think I have removed at least 50 eggs from the tank before because about 10 egg/fish have already died in this 6 days.

So Dunn, if you see some eggs(10-20pcs) in your plants tank. Then the number of the eggs may be over 60.

I am sorry to say that the parents get back to normal, the male start to chase the female again....... that mean all the eggs are gone, I can't see it anymore.
