Awth: don't be upset... your case is EXACTLY the same as my case before (i failed 5 times with two pairs of different adoketa before succeeding)...
the problem could be (1) the eggs are actually NOT well-fertilized (the parents are too young or the male fish is not "strong" enough), or (2) the water quality problem.
I have been thinking for the reason and a solution for both of the above questions over the weekend.
(1) I should just separate them again, and wait for 2-3month feed them well, and then move them back together. As for now, their condition are very good, they swim energetically and get alone together very well.
(2) I have checked the water parameter, ph 5.2, kh 0, gh 1-2, EC 127, NH4 0, NO2 0, NO3 5-10.
I have did a trail test on the EC, the tap water is only EC 27, I am sure the water are free of chlorine and heavy metal since I am using a tap water pre-filter. But after fill up an empty 24" tank with 2cm soil, the EC raise to 108-119, meaning this is the minimal EC reading if I use soil. And if I add Black water, acid leaves and etc into the tank, the EC reading will raise by certain degree. So, I assume the water quality is pretty good since EC reading raise in accordance to the material I add, but not water pollution, I wonder what can I do to further improve the water quality. O3??
