There are "standard" size of tank but still too many standards. In short, the length of tanks are quite standard. You ballast should fit the length of your tank so that both sides of the tank would have properly exposed to light. As a rule of thumb, the total wattage required would be measured according to the volume of water, i.e. 1L=1W. Do note that this is a general rule. The actual wattage required would depend on how much plant you have insde the tank.
