The design of Tetra canister is the same as Eheim. The inflow of water will go through the hole of the containers down to the bottom of the canister. Filtration starts from the bottom filter media to the top of the mat (see the attached figure). So the water is still filtered from coarse media to fine one. The only argument point of the illustration is that the biological neutralization is carried out by the Ex-Bio Balls rather than the Ex-rings (the ceremic rings).
