My tank has been set up for more than 1 month, all the living creature in there are doing fine, pH 6.4-6.8, kH 2-3, temp 25-26. Light and Co2 run 8hrs/day. Algae were found in the 2nd week, which has been completly settled by adding 鉛筆, 大和蝦, 飛狐. Now,the water are cystal clear, therefore I can assume with confident that the N-cycle has been sucessfully developed.
During the 4th week, I have cut some of the plants and relocated some of them, the roots are growing, and the top of the plants are alright - healthy green and growing taller and taller. However, my only problem now is that the bottom part of the plants are yellowish and brownish. Therefore, I assume the penetration power of the T5HO is not efficient to go down to the bottom, as plants are plotted quite closely together. So, I didn't blame on my T5HO for no reason.
Yes, T8 have stronger penetration power than T5HO, (I have to declare that I have no experience with T8, but only from the discussion on this web). Anyhow, I believe HQI has more margin for adjustment - meaning increase lighting power by locating it lower to the tank and via versa.
Correct me if I am wrong, please. Thank you.
When you said the bottom part of the plant turn yellowish, could that be the "old leave" of the plant that can't adopt to the new envirnoment, so after new leave have grow and the plant grow taller, the old leave (which might happen to be 水上葉) start to die?
Another possibility for middle and bottom part turn yellowis insufficient water flow, happen quite often when you have a crowded aquaplant tank, as when plant grow taller, it will block or slow down the water flow, so maybe 2 weeks ago when the plant are still short, the water flow is fine but now, you have to either redirect the flow or add a small pump to create water flow in the bottom/middle layer.
I only join this hobby not too long ago, so I can only think of these two possibilities, maybe if you can provide more description and photo, other experts can help you to resolve the issuel.
Do handle your Solarmax carefully, it can create new problem to your setup, to be honest, 1 month is a bit short, the N-cyce have just started but still far from mature.
I can think of one
possibility to explain why the bottom
