I had tried this device before, I think I had this device manual, if you want this manual, I can fax it to you or contact me, i will tell you.

The goal is to have about 1/10 or less of water from your anister to flow through the device. Make sure the water flow its very slow, but not dead slow. The point is too large the water flow, this device will turn into just another bio-filter, however, too slow the flow, it will turn into a harmful bacteria bed.

Its because this kind of device is very difficult to use, and require regular tuning, so its not very popular at all. Plants do much better job taking up NO3.

Off topic, don't use it in planted tank, your plants won't grow very healthy if NO3 is too low, say somewhere below 5 - 10ppm.
